Fred Mmembe and members of the group known as the Cartel are pushing the candidature of Secretary to Cabinet, Roland Msiska in the case that they fail to have their way through Wynter Kabimba.
Msiska who claims to be related President Sata through Mulenga Sata’s mother, is being pushed to stand and secure the interest of the Cartel in the new government.
‘The plan is to promote polarisation between strong candidates and then a proposal of Msiska will be brought up as a “neutral” candidate before the Central Committee,’ a source has explained.
Msiska and Attorney General Musa Mwenye were the two members of the cartel who made sure that the Cabinet made Guy Scott as Acting President.
The Cartel camp is also said to be sponsoring Miles Sampa as a default candidate but are secretly pushing Msiska as Miles is deemed immature and playful. So far the cartel has been pushing Msiska into public limelight just for the public to see what he looks like. It was Msiska who was forced into TV screens to announce the death of former president Michael Sata instead of the acting president or even vice-president.
Former first lady Christine Kaseba is also on the card of the cartel.
The cartel control most critical government institutions such as Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Attorney general, Speaker of the National Assembly. Secretary to cabinet and now the presidency and vice-presidency of the republic.
If the PF candidate will be chosen by the central committee of the PF, the cartel is also likely to win as the numbers favour it. Guy Scott is the party president and substantive vice-president, and he is also the chairperson for cooperatives. This means he is entitled to three votes. Most important, he has a casting vote in case of a tie.
Msiska, a medical doctor by profession has worked with the United Nations and was lecturing at a University in Namibia.
Cadres have recently camped at Cabinet Office threatening to beat Msiska as they considered his fraternisation with the Cartel is being regarded as an act of betrayal to Sata.
